Today we continue our series meditating on select Psalms during Eastertide, the season between Resurrection Sunday, Easter, and Pentecost Sunday, when the Church celebrates the coming of the Holy Spirit.

Today we meditate on Psalm 145, and a portion of it thereof that will help us to focus on God's character.

Before I read, Before I read, take a deep breath. Quiet your mind and focus your whole being on the words of scripture. Pay attention to what the Holy Spirit highlights for you.

 Psalm 145:8–13
The Lord is gracious and compassionate. slow to anger, and great in mercy. The Lord is good to all, and his mercies are over all his works. All your works will give thanks to you, Lord, and your godly ones will bless you. They will speak of the glory of your kingdom and talk of your might to make known to the sons of mankind your mighty acts and the glory of the majesty of your kingdom. Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom and your dominion endures throughout all generations. The Lord is faithful in his words and holy in all his works.

What did the Holy Spirit highlight for you?  Focus your thoughts on this for a moment.

I'm going to read this portion again. Once again, listen for what the Holy Spirit highlights for you.

Psalm 145,:8–13.
The Lord is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and great in mercy. The Lord is good to all, and his mercies are over all his works. All your works will give thanks to you, Lord, and your godly ones will bless you. They will speak of the glory of your kingdom and talk of your might. To make known to the sons of mankind your mighty acts and the glory and the glory of the majesty of your kingdom. Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom and your dominion endures throughout all generations. The Lord is faithful in his words and holy in all his works.

Now take a moment to sit with the words that you noticed. Think about them.

Psalm 145 focuses on the greatness of God. And it makes me wonder, what are we focused on? Are we focused on the Lord or the things that bring us worry or stress?

Take a moment to focus your mind and soul, your whole self, on the greatness of God. Then pray about this or anything else the Spirit brings to mind.

Let's pray. Father, Son, Holy Spirit, one and only true God, we worship you. Father, we pray that we can focus on your greatness. You are holy and good and righteous. You're compassionate and slow to anger. Help us, oh Lord, to walk in that truth instead of worrying and stressing about things that are beyond our control. Help us to focus on who you are. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
