Jesus prepared his disciples before his suffering by sharing a last Passover meal with them, where Peter promises to never leave Jesus—even unto death.
Jesus foretells of Peter's (Simon's) denial, but then reminds him that when he turns back, to encourage the faith of the other disciples.
The recording of Peter's denial offers us hope—for our own times when we fall short in following Jesus.
